Joel Tomkins almost scored early on before Wigan broke through
Amos Roberts and George Carmont scored two tries each as Wigan secured a home tie in the Super League play-offs.
Roberts opened the scoring for Wigan but Hull responded through former Wigan man Danny Tickle who added the extras.
Carmont touched down and Pat Richards kicked the first of five goals to give Wigan a 10-6 lead at half-time.
Carmont and Roberts doubled their try tallies before Sam Tomkins and Iafeta Paleaaesina killed off the game despite Richard Horne and Craig Hall's replies.
The result means Wigan will finish fifth in Super League, guaranteeing them a home draw in the elimination play-offs against the eight-placed side.
Hull made the early running but could not find the breakthrough even after Wigan's Andy Coley was sin-binned with just seven minutes gone for trying to slow down a restart.

Despite their numerical advantage it needed a good tackle by Graeme Horne to deny Joel Tomkins a try for Wigan.
Wigan claimed the first points after 30 minutes as Sean O'Loughlin made an arcing run to the right touchline and brilliantly flicked a pass inside for Roberts.
Hull responded immediately as Sam Moa pounced on a loose ball to gain possession, and Richard Horne threaded a fine kick through for Tickle to slide over.
Tickle, playing only after a suspension was overturned this week, added the conversion - but Wigan got back in front as Carmont gathered a Sam Tomkins kick.
Richards was on form all night and kicked the first of five goals to give Wigan a four-point lead at the interval.
Carmont and Roberts doubled their try tallies within five minutes of the restart to put Wigan in complete control.
Carmont picked off a Tickle pass to race over unchallenged, before Roberts raced on to a Mark Flanagan pass to touch down.
Hull pulled a try back as Richard Horne crossed the line and Tickle converted but they were hit as Wigan raised the tempo again.
Sam Tomkins wriggled his way through two tackles and ducked under another to score.
Paleaaesina then barged his way through to kill off the game, although there was still time for Hall to score and convert a late breakaway.

Wigan coach Brian Noble:
"It was a scruffy game. We were good in patches but we dropped the ball over the line three or four times.
"I think we were in the element of 'please mode' for our fans, which can lead to a scruffy game, but I thought we were the better team.
"We recognise we need to be a whole lot better than that - but we did enough.
"We've got a home tie in the play-offs guaranteed, and that's what we're delighted about.
"I think any team that finishes in the eight will see that if they put a run together they can do it.
"They will have to have a reasonable amount of healthiness and belief - and we have got both."
Hull coach Richard Agar:
"I thought we had some good individual efforts across the board.
"We're disappointed the game has been lost in a three or four-minute period either side of half-time.
"I thought our effort, commitment and willingness to have a go was pretty good - and we scored some good tries.
"There is a lot that can be learnt from tonight.
"We have not finished yet and want to go out with a good performance and a win at home."
