Barrow are the Chelsea of Rugby League
Monday 25th January 2010
Story in brief:
The Dons entertain Barrow Raiders for their first Cup game of the seasonA big crowd is expected for Doncaster's first cup game of the season when we entertain high spending Barrow Raiders at our Keepmoat Stadium home on Sunday January 31st. Barrow RLFC are the Chelsea of the competition and are always entertaining to watch so it should be a great game to come and see. Tickets are available to view the star studded Barrow side which contains a host of players who have graced Super League such as Jamie Rooney, Ned Catic and Zeb Luisi, former member of the Don's Promotion winning team.
Barrow, with their maverick Chairman Des Johnson, have again strengthened in the off season with ‘Team of the Year' forwards Richard Fletcher and Michael Knowles being recruited from Widnes and Gateshead respectively. These two will accompany Zeb Luisi, himself a Championship Team of the Year 2009 selection, in the back three of the Barrow pack to make it one of the standout forward packs in the competition and well worth coming to see.
The Barrow pack then distribute the ball to their back line which contains ex Super League star Jamie Rooney and an outstanding pairing on the left flank with the two try scoring machines Liam Harrison and James Nixon; the latter scoring 29 Tries in 2009. If people want to see some of the best rugby players in the Cooperative Championship then they should book a ticket now and pencil Sunday 31st January in their diaries.
Standards are certainly high at Barrow because Dave Clarke who was their head coach last year got demoted to Assistant Coach for 2010. This was after he won the competitions coach of the year for 2009 during a season in which he got Barrow to their first cup final in 26 years then went on to win the league and then the Grand Final. A great season but not good enough for Chairman Des Johnston it seems!
The young gun's of the Doncaster side will battle against the stars of Barrow going into the game with no fear and wanting to make a name for themselves, and also make the Doncaster public proud on Sunday 31st January at the Keepmoat Stadium 3pm Kick off in what is sure to be an entertaining game. Book your tickets now by calling the club on 01302 76 25 76
From the Doncaster website:-wish we had their cash even the RFL couldn't refuse us entry to Super league with their wads
